- Newcastle United target Gonzalo Garcia
- Magpies failed to replace Alexander Isak last summer
- Real Madrid could green light sale
Newcastle United are reportedly stepping up their search for an effective Alexander Isak replacement, with Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia emerging as a serious name.
According to TEAMTalk, the Magpies have already approved an approach internally and see the 22-year-old as someone who can lead the line at St James’ Park. With Newcastle still in search of firepower after Isak’s departure, Garcia is said to be firmly on the shortlist.
Newcastle United identify Garcia
The Magpies are still needing to replace the goals lost through the sale of Alexander Isak after the Swedish striker forced a move to Anfield last summer. Around £125 million was splurged on Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade at the time but neither have nailed down the striker role, both benched against Crystal Palace.
Gonzalo Garcia has emerged as a serious target with the Galactico deemed more than capable of leading the line.
Newcastle have internally approved the interest in the 22-year-old and believe he has the profile to succeed in the Premier League. With Newcastle needing fresh attacking firepower, Garcia is said to be high on the shortlist with other names like Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson in the conversation as well.
Why Eddie Howe wants Real Madrid man
Despite the lack of minutes, Gonzalo Garcia has impressed in Madrid this season, making over 30 appearances. The young striker burst onto the scene in the Club World Cup, scoring four goals and one assist, eventually being named as the FIFA CWC Golden Boot winner.
The Spanish U-21 striker is known for his movement, sharp finishing and ability to stretch defences. Those are the qualities Newcastle are desperate for.
Real Madrid decision looms
The Los Blancos could sanction a sale if the right offer arrives this summer. With limited minutes at the Bernabeu, Newcastle signing the striker could be a vital move going into the next season.
Replacing Isak’s impact is no easy task but the Spaniard is viewed as a player with potential to grow into that responsibility. One to watch.
