- Newcastle United tracking Zan Vipotnik transfer.
- Bagsman dubbed as “next Gyokeres”.
- Magpies face competition from West Ham and Aston Villa.
Newcastle United are reportedly monitoring Swansea City striker Žan Vipotnik as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his attacking options this summer.
According to TEAMtalk, the Magpies are among a host of Premier League clubs keeping tabs on the 24-year-old Slovenian, who has emerged as one of the Championship’s standout performers this term.
Swansea City striker Vipotnik attracts Premier League attention
Vipotnik has shown good form this season. The Slovenian forward has been among the most prolific strikers in the Championship, scoring 22 goals so far in the campaign, establishing himself as one of the division’s most dangerous marksmen.
His displays for the Welsh side have earned him comparisons to Viktor Gyokeres, with scouts reportedly viewing him as a similar profile – physical, direct and capable of leading the line effectively. A combination that has made him a hot prospect for clubs looking to add him to their roster.
Newcastle United join transfer race
The Magpies aren’t the only club looking to sign the Swansea striker. Premier League sides including Aston Villa, Everton, Brentford and West Ham have all made their interest known.
This competition could complicate any potential transfer, while the Welsh side also recently tied Vipotnik down to a new long term deal, keeping him at the club until 2030. The contract extension will hand the second tier outfit negotiating power over any potential deal.
What could Vipotnik bring to St James’ Park?
For Eddie Howe, Žan Vipotnik’s profile fits his evolving attacking system. He’s a constant threat up front, has intelligent movement inside the box and has the physical presence required to compete in the Premier League. His ability to finish chances and lead the line would add depth and variations to Newcastle United’s attack options.
Speaking about the player in February, after he bagged a 20-yard screamer against Sheffield Wednesday, Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos said: “Like I said after the game, he’s special, he finds ways to score, that’s another way, and he did that really well. Really pleased for him, for us, it was a really nice one to see it as well from the bench, so that’s something to add and I hope he can keep going.
“He has that kind of talent in terms of finishing. He shoots with either left or right but really powerful and precise as well. So that’s what he did there and sometimes that’s the best solution for something so really pleased.”
With growing top flight interest, the Championship top scorer could be a brilliant addition to any team. However, with the race for his signature intensifying, the Magpies may need to act quickly to secure one of EFL’s most in demand forwards.
In other news, Newcastle United next five fixtures compared to Chelsea, Sunderland and Everton.
