Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe receives public backing from Kieran Trippier after FA Cup win

Kieran Trippier has thrown his full support behind manager Eddie Howe following Newcastle United’s impressive FA Cup 4th round victory over Aston Villa.

The win sees the Magpies advance into the last 16 of the competition, and could breathe new life into Newcastle’s season, following their elimination from the Carabao Cup and inconsistent form in the Premier League.

For Trippier, however, the result was about more than just the scoreline — it was a reflection of the belief within the squad towards Howe.

Speaking after the match, the veteran defender was quick to dedicate the victory to his manager.

“You see all the stuff on social media, which he really does not deserve we are fully behind him we are fully playing for him, so this one is for him as well.”

It’s not the first time in recent weeks that the former England international has thrown his support behind Howe.

Following last week’s victory away to Tottenham Hotspur, Trippier and Newcastle captain Bruno Guimarães made a point of thrusting Howe in front of the travelling Newcastle fans.

The pair have enjoyed a long partnership, with Trippier first playing under Howe at Burnley during the 2011-2012 season.

“I’ve known Eddie Howe more than half my life. I know him personally, what he’s like and how much commitment and love he has for Newcastle. What he puts into this club is relentless,” Trippier said in a recent interview.

Trippier was Eddie Howe’s first signing as Newcastle manager, making the switch from then La Liga champions Atletico Madrid in January 2022, the first marquee signing of the Newcastle United/PIF era.
