Newcastle United are in the mix of clubs who are looking to sign highly-rated Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk over the coming months.
That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who expects the 21-year-old to be at the centre of a fiercely fought transfer tussle, with the journalist positive that the Magpies will be involved.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said: “For sure they’re in there. It’s going to be very hard, I think, for Newcastle to persuade Mudryk to move to St. James’ Park.
“I’m sure Mudryk will be looking to join one of Europe’s elite clubs right now with the form that he’s shown for Shakhtar, especially in the Champions League this season.
“So, he’s not going to be short of takers, you’ve got the likes of Arsenal and other clubs in the Premier League as well as clubs across Europe who I’m sure are interested in Mudryk.”
Newcastle can fight
If the Toon can keep up their Champions League qualification exploits, there is no reason as to why Ukrainian gem Mudryk would be opposed to joining such an exciting and illustrious project.
At age 21, the £86million winger is the exact type of player that the club so seek.
He’s a star with a lot of potential and as such can grow in tandem with the ambitions of the club.
Plus, if the Magpies are to secure qualification to the Champions League, he’s an asset that relishes the big occasion and could help to seal a seamless transition back into Europe’s top club competition.
Three goals and two assists in six Champions League games have seen Mudryk assert himself as a promising star, massively improving on last season’s tally of zero attacking returns in seven appearances.
It shows that even at his tender age, he is a player capable of adapting at a pretty respectable pace.
This will surely appeal to Howe and co, who will be in with a genuine shout of signing him if they can secure European football at the very minimum.
