A number of Newcastle supporters have been reacting to an update from Chronicle Live reporter Mark Douglas that the Magpies returned to training as a group on Wednesday ahead of their meeting with West Brom.
Understand #nufc players will train as group today, for the first time since COVID outbreak.
All signs pointing to Saturday's game v West Brom now going ahead.
— Mark Douglas (@MsiDouglas) December 9, 2020
The Magpies saw their match against Aston Villa last Friday postponed due to an outbreak of Covid cases at their training ground, which was subsequently closed and has only just reopened at the start of this week. That also left their game against West Brom this weekend in some doubt, with previous reports suggesting it was potentially in doubt.
However, Douglas has taken to Twitter to confirm that Newcastle’s squad returned to full training together as a group for the first time on Wednesday. He also suggested that it seems likely that their match against West Brom will go ahead on Saturday as scheduled.
However, at this stage it is unknown whether there will be several players unable to feature against the struggling Baggies, which could offer a major issue for Steve Bruce when it comes to selecting his squad for the match. The Magpies will be hoping they can put to one side the issues they have had and secure a win which would pull them further clear of the relegation zone.
Newcastle fans react to Magpies’ group training resumption
Many Newcastle fans were concerned over the possibility of being without a number of players for the game against West Brom, while some supporters were questioning whether the match should be played or postponed again like the Aston Villa clash had been.
Just really hoping Darlow, Wilson and Shelvey are available.

If the same 11 from Palace are available and a couple of subs are available as long as we have trained rather play, 3 points will do nicely

Makes it hard for WBA to prepare too. Glad Newcastle are quiet on identity at this moment

Ah, that is a shame as this had a welcome 3pts written all over it for nufc.

Not exactly ideal prep if we've got a few missing. Surprised it's going ahead.

Huge game not only for us but also for a number of teams at the bottom of the table. What risk does the game pose to @WBA? #NUFC https://t.co/4ZGEwa1fS2
