Newcastle Fans Revel In Latest Takeover Update

Newcastle fans haven’t been able to hide their joy following Sky Sports North-East reporter Keith Downie’s takeover update on the Pitch to Post Review

Downie stated that current incumbent Mike Ashley is leaving ‘no stone unturned’ in his attempts to sell the club.

Having been on the brink of selling the club in the summer, the Premier League put a stop to a takeover bid from PCP Capital Partners, the Reuben Brothers, and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) following the rejection of an arbitration offer.

There were issues surrounding the Saudi-led group attempts to secure an 80% stake in a £300m takeover, with accusations of the group’s involvement in piracy of Premier League football in Saudi Arabia. Accusation’s which is true would almost certainly mean the failure of the mandatory Owners and Directors Test

However, Ashley hasn’t given up hope of resurrecting the sale to the consortium, with Downie now claiming: ‘’It sounds as though Ashley will leave no stone unturned, and will spend what is required to go up against the Premier League to see if he can get this aborted takeover.’’

Now, the much-maligned Toon owner has come in for some rare praise from the Newcastle fans on Twitter, backing his attempts to sell the club as soon as possible.

Having got excited over the prospect of new ownership and with it a potential influx of money in the summer, Newcastle fans were rightly left disheartened and disillusioned with the seeming collapse of the takeover.

However, the latest update provides some light at the end of the tunnel that the deal may yet not be dead in the water.

There is no doubt the current relationship between St James’ Park faithful and owner isnow claiming, despite Ashley’s latest positive move towards selling.
