Newcastle considering deal to sign Arsenal midfielder Stan Flaherty

Newcastle are considering a deal to sign Arsenal midfielder Stan Flaherty following a trial with the club.

Flaherty played for Newcastle’s under-18 side earlier this month in a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool and the club are weighing up a deal for the attacking midfielder.

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle could sign Flaherty due to his lack of game time at Arsenal this season. The report also claims that he had a trial at West Ham earlier this year.

Is this a good move from the club?

Whilst it is almost impossible to tell if it would be a good signing, as under-18 games are not readily available to watch, it is impressive that the club are looking to invest in their youth set-up.

The fact that Newcastle are trying to improve their youth squads and add more quality to their teams below the first-team shows that there is a clear plan in place. The club are trying to bring through young players, much like the Longstaff brothers, which can only be a good thing.

Who does not love seeing an academy player breakthrough into the first-team and succeed? Newcastle adding further quality to their academy will surely only give the club a greater chance of bleeding through more and more fresh blood into the first-team.
