Newcastle striker retrospectively charged with violent conduct

Newcastle United forward Islam Slimani has been charged with violent conduct after a controversial incident was caught by the cameras against West Brom on Saturday.

The forward is on loan from Leicester City for the remainder of the season but is now set to miss the remaining three games, having been charged after allegedly kicking out against Baggies defender Craig Dawson.

It has been a tough spell at the club for the player after arriving with an injury, and he has only recently come into Rafa Benitez’s first-team plans.

The match officials missed the incident, meaning that a ban can be awarded for the player, who has featured just three times for the Toon since his arrival at the club.

Slimani can still appeal against the charge, with the chances running out for him to impress at St James’ Park.
