Sissoko is being coveted by Real Madrid and Diame’s arrival for an undisclosed fee, could allow a deal to be pushed through.
Upon his arrival, Diame said this about the move:
It is a great feeling to be a Newcastle player.
Everybody close to me knows how desperate I am to play in the Premier League again, but when Newcastle comes in for you it makes you think.
I am looking to the future. Newcastle is a big name, a massive club and will be back in the Premier League, for sure.
Clark joins from now Championship rivals, Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee and will provide competition for Chancel Mbemba, Jamal Lascalles and Grant Hanley.
The two follow Mat Sels, Matt Ritchie, the aforementioned Hanley and former Atletico Madrid defender, Jesus Gamez through the doors at St.James Park this summer.
Clark revealed why he switched Villa for Newcastle:
Newcastle is a massive club so I’m really happy to be here.
Importantly, it is a club that is moving in the right direction and pushing for the right things, so I’m really excited to now be a part of that.
Things seem to have progressed really quickly over the last few days but I’m delighted to have got it all done and be a part of this squad.
Newcastle boss, Benitez had this to say about his two latest arrivals:
Mohamed is a strong, attack-minded player with a lot of fight and determination to his game.
He is also someone who will provide the team with goals and assists from midfield.
He has good experience of the Championship and the fight needed to win promotion, which will be important for us.
Ciaran is a very versatile player, as a left-footed centre-back he can also play left-back and also as a defensive midfielder.
He has a lot of experience of English football and will add good balance and competition to our squad.
I am sure he will progress with us here at Newcastle, we are very happy for him to join us.
