Newcastle are set to be without Serbian forward Aleksander Mitrovic for the next few weeks as the 21-year old striker recovers from a knee ligament injury, Steve McClaren told Sky Sports.
It is expected that Newcastle will be without Mitrovic, who signed from Anderlecht for a fee of £13million during the summer transfer window, for ‘a couple of weeks’, and as a result, the striker has not travelled to La Manga for warm weather training with the rest of the first-team squad.
However, it is not all doom and gloom for Newcastle; manager Steve McClaren has received a boost in that Dutch midfield duo Vernon Anita and Siem De Jong, along with United left-back Paul Dummett have also travelled to Spain after recovering from their respective injuries.

Losing Mitrovic could spell yet more problems for Newcastle, who have struggled to find the net this season, and currently sit 18th in the Premier League table after winning just two of their last ten fixtures. The next league game will also be a challenge, playing away against an in-form Stoke City side on March 2nd.

Many United fans may hope to see January-transfer loanee Seydou Doumbia to be granted his first senior squad since arriving on loan from Roma in the last few days of the recent window. There are however concerns about Doumbia’s match fitness – which may see a return to the side from Papiss Cisse, who is nearing full fitness after recovering from an injury sustained in mid-December.
