Rolando Aarons is set to feature in Newcastle United’s FA Cup match against Watford this weekend according to The Chronicle.
The youngster, who has had a torrid time with injuries since his breakthrough last season, was set to star in the reserve team game against Everton. However the squad only found out the game was off minutes before arriving. Then another reserve team game was called off due to poor weather conditions, leaving Aarons short of reserve game time.
Aarons broke through last season under Alan Pardew with a fine display against Manchester City. Since then he’s struggled to regain full fitness and string together performances to get near the form he was showing under the previous manager.
Newcastle’s Fans are desperate to see Aarons back in action, they feel he offers a route that’s unique within the squad. The young Englishman has pace, power and a trick in abundance and could offer plenty to Steve McClaren’s relegation scrap.
Aarons told NUFCTV,
It was frustrating to go all the way to Southport and then be told it was off when we were 10 minutes away. Then we had a friendly arranged the next day and that was called off as well. It wasn’t meant to be but I’m happy to be back fit and available to play games. I have been out a long time and injuries play on your mind a bit, so it’s just nice to be back with the boys, travelling and getting used to away trips again. The whole of 2015 was pretty hard for me obviously because I didn’t really get a lot of games, I wasn’t available a lot and when I was, I wasn’t really playing as much. It would have been nice to have played the 45 minutes I was meant to play against Everton but it wasn’t meant to be. I hope I can get a few minutes out against Watford and take it from there. I have never played in the FA Cup so it would be good to get a chance.
