According to The Chronicle, Steve McClaren will have the backing of the board even if his side go out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle. Lee Charnley is said to be working hard behind the scenes at keeping the board on-side with McClaren. McClaren will not be judged on his sides cup performances.
The former England manager is under pressure at St.james’ Park, as his side sit in the relegation zone without a win in 4. However the Englishman believes his sides luck is about to turn.
Newcastle United are set to have a busy first month of 2016, with numerous players being mooted as the Magpies look to strengthen a number of key areas. Not least up-front, where Aleksandar Mitrovic has put in some encouraging performances, but just hasn’t quite got the goals to kill the game.
It remains to be seen how far the board will go to back McClaren.
