Newcastle hold off Willems move

Newcastle are set to wait until the summer to make a move for promising PSV left-back Jetro Willems despite talk of them readying a January move for the Netherlands international.

Willems has been looked over on several occasions by chief scout Graham Carr in his ventures in Holland, however the Magpies will hold off in their pursuit of the 21-year-old.

The reason for Newcastle’s reluctance to move in January is thought to be a result of the PSV man’s current injury problems as Willems recovers from a minor knee injury.

Due to Willems’ contract expiring in the summer of 2017 and it looking as though the left-back will not extend his deal at the club, PSV could look to cash in on him in the near future – most likely next summer.

Although Willems will not be one of Toon boss Steve McClaren’s January signings this year, Newcastle are said to now be turning their attentions to more attacking players in order to bolster their front-line.
