Newcastle boss Steve McClaren has assured the Magpies’ fans that he does not intend on resting players as his side prepare to take on Watford in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
For a number of years now, the FA Cup has been widely taken as an opportunity to play fringe players at Newcastle, with the club not progressing past the fourth round since Mike Ashley took over in 2007, but it seems as though current boss McClaren has his sights set beyond Newcastle’s most recent feat.

McClaren’s different approach to the cup could be seen as fairly dangerous given Newcastle’s current league position; sitting in 17th place and in real danger of the drop this season. However, the former-England manager has insisted that every game is crucial for his side.
We’ll play a strong team and every game is important. The FA Cup is as important as any other game. It’s another game we want to win.
The Toon will need to be on top form to prevent an impressive Watford side from progressing in the cup, but McClaren and his Newcastle team will feel as though they have the talent to see off the threat of Quique Sanchez Flores’ men on Saturday.
