St. Etienne goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier has rebuffed interest in his services from Newcastle, according to Foot Mercato (reported by Get French Football News).
The 29-year-old stopper was linked with a move to Tyneside a few weeks ago, following Tim Krul’s season-ending injury.
The Magpies are believed to have contacted Ruffier’s representatives regarding a possible deal in January, but the long-time Etienne ‘keeper has no intention of leaving the club in the near future.
The French international has established himself as one of the most reliable shot-stoppers in Ligue 1 since joining Monaco in 2005, and he is reportedly happy with life at Les Verts.
The man that replaced the injured Tim Krul, Rob Elliot, has been terrific since his emergence in Newcastle’s team last month, so this news may come as a surprise to many of the Geordie faithful.
It’s clear that the goalkeeping department no longer remains an issue for United, and that focus should be placed on strengthening other areas of the team instead.
