Sissoko: I give everything I have

Moussa Sissoko has responded to criticism of his performances this season, admitting that he has suffered a dip in form, but that it isn’t due to a lack of effort.

The French midfielder has been Newcastle’s most creative player this season, boasting five assists (followed by Georginio Wijnaldum, Daryl Janmaat and Ayoze Perez on two), but he has been invisible in a number of the Magpies’ defeats.

As a result, the 26-year-old has been subject to criticism from the Geordie faithful, but Moussa insists he always gives his all – even when times are bad.

In an interview with The Chronicle, he said: “When we win the fans sing my name.

“If we lose or play badly, they are disappointed with me.

Every game I try to do my very best.

“Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But I give everything I have.”

His recent comments regarding his desire to depart from Tyneside in favour of a ‘bigger club’ certainly did not help the situation, but Sissoko is looking to make amends and fire Newcastle up the table.

“I hope this win [vs Liverpool] gives us more confidence for the future,” he said.

“We have enjoyed the win over Liverpool this week, but we are now preparing for the massive game with Tottenham.”

If he can kick on from his performance against the Reds and string together a run of impressive displays (which everybody knows he is capable of), Newcastle fans may begin to put their faith in Sissoko once again, and his poor start to the season will be forgiven.
