Newcastle United are continuing to monitor the progress of English youngster Callum Douglas, who is currently plying his trade in the Spanish lower leagues.
The 16-year-old was on trial at Newcastle in the summer, as well as Dutch youngster Dani Koks, but was not offered a youth contract and returned to Spain. Formerly of Elche, Callum is currently playing for Jove Español in the Tercera Division (fourth tier of Spanish football).
According to The Chronicle, the Magpies are continuing to track Douglas after his trial, but they face competition from Norweigan outfit Rosenburg, who also offered Douglas a trial.
Douglas grew up in the North-East and started his youth career at Wallsend Boys Club as a defender, before moving to Spain with his family. He impressed the scouts attending the Alicante district matches and eventually earned a place in Elche’s academy – where he played up until the summer.
Last season, Douglas netted over 45 times for Elche’s youth team.
