Newcastle are lining up a shock move for former QPR and Tottenham winger Adel Taarabt, according to O Jogo (reported by talkSPORT).
Taarabt, who currently plies his trade for Portuguese giants Benfica, is said to be deemed surplus to requirements at the club.
The 26-year-old played in the Premier League for eight years, but never really fulfilled his potential due to his fraudulent attitude and greediness on the ball.

Newcastle are desperate to avoid the drop this season, and the Magpies feel that the Moroccan international would certainly add an extra dimension to their attack.
Taarabt joined Benfica earlier on this year, but is yet to feature for Rui Vitoria’s team. With the controversial winger on the brink of leaving Portugal, Newcastle have added him to their list of January targets.
Many will feel that this signing wouldn’t really add anything to the squad, except unnecessarily high wages. However, with the former AC Milan midfielder’s price dropping, Newcastle may take the risk.
