Off the back of Newcastle’s 5-1 hammering at the hands of Crystal Palace, John Salako has publicly slammed the performance of the Magpies.
Salako, a former winger and now first-team coach at the Eagles, joined former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew’s coaching staff earlier this year.
In a recent interview, the former Gilette Soccer Saturday reporter criticised the Toon players for their display at Selhurst Park last Saturday.
I feel for Steve (McClaren), you could see him shaking his head afterwards – the frustration; but the team really did let themselves down.

Salako then went on to judge the belief of Steve McClaren’s disgruntled squad.
To equalise quite quickly knocked the stuffing out of them and you could just see their heads going down. There was no belief.
They didn’t earn the right to win that game and in the end they let us walk all over them.
The majority of the Geordie faithful will wholeheartedly agree with the views of the Palace coach, and that’s saying something. The dreadful display witnessed last weekend needs to be amended – and fast.
