Former boss backs McClaren to succeed

Steve McClaren is the right man to lead Newcastle to success, claims former Magpies’ manager Chris Hughton.

With the club sitting in an unhealthy 17th position after just two wins from 13 Premier League games, the pressure on McClaren has unsurprisingly increased in recent weeks.

But Hughton, who guided Newcastle to promotion from the Championship a few years ago, feels the out-of-form Magpies are still in safe hands.

In an interview with Drivetime (quotes from TalkSport), the current Brighton and Hove Albion gaffer had some kind words for McClaren.

Steve is a top quality coach and manager and probably when you are going into a job and you’ve got to change a fair amount of what you think is right there then sometimes that takes a little bit of time.

Sometimes you receive a few knocks along the way but ultimately, your aim is to get there and certainly, in Steve, they have the right person to do that.

Hughton is still highly thought of by the Toon faithful and these optimistic comments will only further that belief. Let’s hope that he’s right!

matchday.
