Paul Simpson, assistant to Newcastle Head Coach Steve McClaren, believes that owner Mike Ashley will continue his policy of investing in the club come January.
The infamous Ashley has owned the Tyneside club for over eight years now, with many Toon Army fans calling for him to sell the club during that time.
The Sports Direct majority stakeholder forked out £50m for the Magpies to spend on five reinforcements during the summer transfer window – and that’s definitely something we, as fans, cannot complain about.

The majority of Newcastle supporters are hoping for this sort of investment to become a consistent theme for the next few years, and Paul Simpson’s recent quotes certainly fill us with bundles of confidence.
Speaking to BBC Newcastle, McClaren’s right-hand man had this to say:
We’ve had a good chance to look at the squad so far, we know there are areas (to improve) but the one thing I would say is that so far the owner has backed us fantastically well.
I’m sure if Steve goes to him in January and recognises areas that we need to strengthen again, I’d be very surprised if he (Ashley) doesn’t back us again.
These comments will undoubtedly be music to many Newcastle fans’ ears and with Steve McClaren setting a wishlist for the January transfer window, it looks like we could be seeing further additions to the squad.
