Newcastle United youngster Ivan Toney has agreed to join Barnsley on a 28-day emergency loan, according to Sky Sports reporters Keith Downie.
The 19-year-old has impressed for Newcastle’s under-21 side since arriving on Tyneside in the summer and has been attracting interest from Football League clubs as a result.
Toney has bagged five goals in eight games this season and, in his first month on Tyneside, has already won U21 Premier League Player of the Month.
Wolverhampton Wanderers and high-flying Burton Albion were heavily linked with a move for Toney in the two week, but it is the Tykes, in League One, who have won the race for his signature.
In other news, another Newcastle youngster, Jamie Cobain has joined Sheffield United on a 28-day emergency loan.

Cobain is a right-sided defender who has featured four times for the Magpies’ under-21 side this season. In a bid to impress Steve McClaren and prove he is worthy of a contract extension, the 18-year-old is heading to the Blades in League One temporarily.
