Following his performance against Lille at the weekend, Remy Cabella has moved within one appearance of completing a permanent transfer to Olympique de Marseille, according to The Chronicle.
The Frenchman only arrived on Tyneside in 2014, but struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League and hit the heights expected of him, so he was offered out on loan.
Marseille immediately declared their interest, but Newcastle were unwilling to allow Cabella to leave without signing a replacement – with Graham Carr desperate to strike a deal for Florian Thauvin.

While a deal originally seemed unlikely, the resignation of Marcelo Bielsa paved the way for a swap deal to occur. Newcastle agreed on a £13million fee for Florian Thauvin, with Remy Cabella going the other way – initially on loan.
The agreement included a clause that would make Cabella’s transfer permanent after making his twelfth appearance for the Ligue 1 outfit. The 25-year-old’s tally currently stands at eleven.
Next up for Marseille, an away trip to Nantes on Sunday, where Cabella is expected to start.
