Newcastle United to spend again in January

Newcastle are set to spend more money in January and will stand by McClaren in the hunt for possible replacements say the Chronicle.

Newcastle are not usually the most active of clubs in the January window as they believe there is not much value for money, but despite their reservations, the club are expected to be making plans to spend again and they are also to have a thorough review of their previous business and future business in October.

McClaren hasn’t had the easiest of starts to his tenure as Newcastle head coach, he is yet to see a Premier League victory, which in turn has set alarms from within the club and the fans but McClaren has handled everything calmly, although he has admitted that the job was much bigger than he anticipated.

Scouts from the club were in Spain over the weekend as well as monitoring struggling Borussia Monchengladbach and French side Lyon, which has added to suggestions that the club will still be looking abroad.

Newcastle will be looking to strengthen defensively and up front, but it remains to be seen if Newcastle will pursue QPR striker Charlie Austin.

Newcastle are preparing to face Manchester City this weekend and are also expected to field the same 11 that performed well against Chelsea last week.
