Newcastle United have had a poor start to the Premier League season, failing to win a game so far, and Steve McClaren may turn to players featuring for the under-21’s in an attempt to give Newcastle some fresh impetus.
Shieldsgazette are reporting that Newcastle manager Steve McClaren watched on from the sideline as Newcastle’s under-21’s drew 1-1 with Swansea City.
There were two players in the side who could be considered for Premier League action. Marveaux and Toney both played and McClaren could be considering both for the first team.
Marveaux, who spent last season on loan in Ligue 1 with Guingamp, played 45 minutes of the draw. He has been missing since July with a groin problem and when he is fully fit, will challenge for a first-team place.

Ivan Toney, who signed in the summer from Northampton Town, impressed. He scored in the 61st minute, superbly chipping the ball over the Swansea ‘keeper to score Newcastle’s only goal.
Toney could be given a chance in the Premier League, most likely on the bench. He could come on as an impact sub and offer Newcastle a different option up top in an attempt to kick-start their Premier League campaign.
