Newcastle full-back Daryl Janmaat has revealed that he and his teammates are aiming to win the Capital One Cup this season. The Dutchman has been one of our best players so far this campaign, and he certainly hasn’t been afraid to express his thoughts on the team and their form.
Off the back of a goal against Watford on Saturday, Janmaat told the Chronicle the following:
We can do well in the Capital One Cup but you need a bit of luck with the draw. It is a big opportunity this season. The club want to win prizes and the cup is a big prize. We have to prepare right and go for it. The cup goes quickly and we could be in the final 16 if we win against Sheffield Wednesday.
Newcastle’s next two Premier League opponents come in the form of last season’s top two, Chelsea and Manchester City – but Janmaat insists he and the team are solely focused on the game against Sheffield Wednesday:
Don’t forget the Capital One Cup. It is a really important game for us. We have a big week ahead and we have to be ready.
When asked if he was eager to feature in the League Cup game, Daryl responded enthusiastically:
Yes of course. I want to play in every game. I like playing football so I want to play all the time.
