Newcastle target striker signing in the next 12 months

The summer transfer window has only just slammed shut but already Newcastle have begun preparations for the January window. Their priority will be signing under-21 talent and bolstering their striking options.

On the Turkish deadline day, Papiss Cisse was offered to clubs for just £6million as Newcastle hoped to seal a deal for either Pierre-Michel Lasogga or Charlie Austin from QPR. Neither deal materialised and Cisse remained on Tyneside, but it looks like they may look to offload the Senegalese striker again in January.

Newcastle United’s scouting team will continue to track German striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga from Hamburg, according to Mark Douglas of The Chronicle – a player who has been on Graham Carr’s shortlist for some time.

The 23-year-old could be available for £9million – though Newcastle are unlikely to match Hamburg’s asking price and will negotiate a lower fee.

Since signing for the Bundesliga outfit, Lasogga has suffered quite a torrid time in the fringes of the first-team. He is hoping to revive his career by securing a move elsewhere and, as it stands, Newcastle are showing the strongest interest in him.

So far this season, Pierre-Michel has netted once in three substitute appearances – totalling 60 minutes.

Mark states that the Magpies are hoping to do more of their business in Germany as a result of the ‘Premier League’s increased financial muscle’. Long ago are the days of signing cheap French flops who’ll prove nothing more than paper over the cracks.

Not all of our French additions were poor, I must stress that, but there were plenty (Amalfitano, Marveaux, Riviere, Yanga-Mbiwa) who just didn’t live up to the potential.
