Newcastle will focus more on securing under-21 talent in the January transfer window, according to the Chronicle.
Following the major success of young Spaniard Ayoze Perez, Newcastle scouts have been told to keep an eye out for more under-21 players – in order to try and replicate Perez’s success.

The club had reportedly aimed to sign 3 players for the development squad, but only managed to secure 1 in former Northampton striker Ivan Toney. It is believed that they were priced out of signing any further development squad additions.
One player who the club had cast an eye on was David Concha of Real Sociedad, but they passed on the opportunity to sign him in the end. Leeds’ anchorman Lewis Cook attracted heavy interest from the club, but they were put off by Leeds’ high asking price for the player.

Newcastle will focus primarily on finding talent in places like Switzerland, Germany and in particular, Spain. United have been notifying potential targets in Spain for quite some time – and it could be a very productive market.
It’s very rare that Newcastle make any high-profile signings in the January transfer windows, so it makes sense that the club is focusing more on the development side of things. Who knows, we could bag another gem just like Ayoze come January!
