Lee Ryder of The Chronicle has revealed Newcastle United rejected the chance to sign Charlie Austin TWICE on deadline day.
An agent acting on behalf of QPR’s director of football Les Ferdinand offered Newcastle the chance to sign Charlie Austin for £10million plus hot prospect Rolando Aarons – whose contract expires next summer. The Magpies swiftly rejected the proposal.
The agent followed up with a second proposal – a straight cash deal worth £12million – which Newcastle rejected, once again.

Rolando Aarons burst onto the scene last pre-season and caught the eye of scouts across the country – including Manchester City and Arsenal. In a bid to fend off interest from elsewhere, Newcastle opened contract talks with the youngster, but an agreement couldn’t be agreed and the talks were postponed until the summer.
Some fans questioned whether Aarons was in Steve McClaren’s plans having only made one competitive start this season, but rejecting the chance to sign the club’s top transfer target to retain the 19-year-old would signal he is definitely in McClaren’s plans.
Though he has hardly featured under McClaren, Aarons is expected to sign a new contract soon, as well as French powerhouse Moussa Sissoko.
