Newcastle stuck with Cisse

Newcastle attempted to offload Senegal striker Papiss Cisse on Monday to Galatasaray, but the Turkish Giants balked at the £6 million asking price set by the Magpies, according to the Chronicle.

The 29-year-old publicly voiced his concerns at the lack of playing time on Sunday evening and refused to rule out an exit from Newcastle before the window slammed shut. Despite the club’s best efforts, Newcastle were unable to find a buyer for Cisse willing to match their valuation – though Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor were interested.

Failure to offload Cisse lead to Newcastle’s late move for German international Pierre-Michel Lasogga falling through.

Steve McClaren will attempt to offload Cisse again in January, in order to make way for a new striking addition – with a cut-price move for Charlie Austin (whose contract expires next summer) on the cards.

A number of clubs were accredited with interest in the 26-year-old striker, but were deterred from making a bid by QPR’s lofty £15million price tag.
