Olympique Lyonnais have officially announced the signing of French youngster Olivier Kemen from Newcastle for an undisclosed fee.
The 19-year-old captained the French under-19 side at the European Championships during the summer but has failed to make an impact on the senior squad – despite being named on the bench on occasions last season. His performances during this summer’s competition caught the eye of scouts from top clubs from across Europe – including AS Monaco, AC Milan, Liverpool and Tottenham.

Some fans have publicly voiced their concerns over the sale of the promising youngster to one of France’s top clubs but, having failed to make a single senior appearance, it’s very unlikely that his exit will have much of an impact on the squad.

Kemen will now join up with Lyon’s development (under-21) squad and will need to impress academy coaches Alain Olio and Gilles Rousset before being promoted to Hubert Fournier’s senior squad.
