Another Newcastle target set to stay at current club

Any hope of Newcastle signing Uruguayan striker Diego Rolan has been quashed, with the player set to stay at Bordeaux, according to French media publication Le10 Sport.

Rolan has entered contract extension discussions and talks are said to be going smoothly. This new contract could see him sign on until the year of 2017, putting rumours surrounding his future to bed, once and for all.

Newcastle, Aston Villa, Stoke City and Sevilla have all expressed their interest in the Uruguayan striker, who bagged 15 goals for Bordeaux in Ligue 1 last season – but Bordeaux’s asking price of €20million has put off any potential suitors for the player.

Rolan is a player who has been linked with a move to Tyneside for quite some time now and this transfer saga is finally close to an end. Earlier in the Summer, the Daily Mirror reported that the club were launching an £11million move for Rolan, but that never surfaced. Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Tiraud responded to these rumours by revealing that Newcastle had enquired for Rolan, but no concrete offer had been made for the player’s services.

With just 5 days remaining in the transfer window, it looks as if Newcastle’s incoming transfer dealings are done – but never say never!
