Newcastle have stepped up their interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Benik Afobe, according to Alan Oliver of the Sunday People.
Formerly of Arsenal, Afobe has been catching the eye of many Premier League scouts with his impressive performances in the Championship for Wolves. Any potential deal for Afobe could be dependant on the uncertain future of Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse. It is said that Steve McClaren will look to bring in a worthy replacement for Cisse, if he was to leave the club.
Wolves boss Kenny Jacket has categorically denied that his promising forward is “not for sale,” after Norwich were rebuffed in an attempt to sign the England U21 player last week.

Afobe has scored 35 goals in his last 2 seasons, for both MK Dons and current club Wolves, and has already bagged 3 in 4 games so far this season. At only 22-years old, the youngster has a very bright future in football and has been touted as a future starter for the England National team.
This is the first time Benik Afobe’s name has come up in regards to a switch to Tyneside, with much of the talk being placed on Charlie Austin and Aymen Abdennour. It’s going to be very difficult for any team to push through a move for Afobe, considering he is Wolves’ most prized asset.
