Newcastle in race for former Saints loanee

Newcastle United have reignited their interest in Serbian international Filip Đuričić, according to O Jogo.

The Portuguese news outlet report Đuričić will leave Benfica this summer, having failed to impress former manager Jorge Jesus and his successor Rui Vitória. After two failed attempts at reviving his career whilst on loan at Mainz and Southampton, Benfica have decided to offload the 23-year-old and have set an asking price of just €4million.

AC Milan have been linked with a move for the former Heerenveen star, but a move to the Premier League seems much more likely, with Newcastle, Swansea, Watford and Bournemouth monitoring his situation.

Đuričić has been a long-term target of Newcastle’s – with the Serb originally being linked with a move to Tyneside back in January 2014. Graham Carr had reportedly identified Filip as an alternative to French international Clement Grenier, as Newcastle continued their search for someone to fill the Yohan Cabaye shaped void in midfield.
