Italian giants AC Milan have enquired over the availability of Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko, according to The Mirror.
The Magpies have reportedly slapped a £15.5million price tag on Sissoko, who has attracted interest from a number of clubs across Europe, including Arsenal, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Frenchman has previously expressed an interest in playing Champions League football but has refocused himself on life at St James’ Park after a talk with Steve McClaren. Our head coach plans to build a team around Sissoko and is prepared to play him out wide to provide him with the freedom he needs to perform well.
During a radio phone-in with BBC Newcastle, McClaren said: “We cannot lose Moussa, I know there’s a lot of interest, but he’s under contract.”
“On my first day he walked into my office, a specimen of a man, an absolute presence and manner – very professional and low maintenance.
“I’ve said to Lee Charnley (managing director), ‘wow, we’ve got to keep this guy’. I want to build a team around him.”
While McClaren hopes to retain Sissoko’s services, Newcastle look set to lose another midfielder with Mehdi Abeid closing in on a move to Panathinaikos. He is among a number of Newcastle fringe players heading for exits before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.
