Newcastle poised to dip back into the French market

Newcastle are poised to make their fifth Summer signing this week in the shape of French forward Florian Thauvin from Marseille, according to the Mirror.

Thauvin, 22, has been a long-term target of Newcastle’s and has been heavily linked with a move to Tyneside throughout this summer window. It is reported that the player himself has a desire to make the switch to St James’ Park.

Newcastle look set to offer French side Marseille £12million for the services of Thauvin and Newcastle are hopeful of completing the deal this week.

Thauvin would become Newcastle’s fifth summer signing joining Gini Wijnaldum, Aleksander Mitrovic, Chancel Mbemba and Ivan Toney. If Thauvin does complete does complete the switch to St James Park it would take Newcastle’s summer spending to the £50million mark.

Newcastle do look set to miss out on West Brom striker Saido Berahino as Tottenham Hotspur have become favourites to land the England U21 striker.

This news comes off the back of a bad day at the office for Newcastle who lost 2-0 at Swansea, while Daryl Janmaat saw red for two careless challenges on Jefferson Montero.
