Newcastle urged to make Austin bid

Newcastle United have been urged to make a firm offer for Charlie Austin by Queens Park Rangers boss Chris Ramsey.

Austin attracted attention from a number of Premier League clubs last season, including Chelsea, Spurs and West Ham due to his fine goalscoring exploits – 18 goals in 35 appearances – but relegated QPR are yet to receive a formal offer for the 26-year-old.

The £15million price-tag slapped on Austin has deterred potential suitors from following up their initial interest, but Chris Ramsey has now urged interested parties to make an offer.

Ramsey is quoted by The Chronicle saying: “If a club wants him and come in and make firm offers, and if the owners think it’s the right offer, then he’ll go.

“All we’re looking for is a firm offer to get this thing sorted one way or another.

“We haven’t had any firm offers for Charlie and as far as we’re concerned he’s a QPR player and will want to do his best to get his goalscoring tally up to where it was last year.”

As it stands, Newcastle remain the bookies favourites for Austin’s signature, though the deal seems increasingly unlikely with Papiss Cisse content with life on Tyneside.

Steve McClaren has suggested that there could be more to come from Newcastle in the transfer market, but it is being well reported that fans should expect more exits before the next arrival.
