Les Ferdinand, QPR’s Director of Football, has surprisingly said that if nobody matches the club’s £15million asking price for in-demand striker Charlie Austin, he will be offered a contract extension, as reported by The Chronicle.
It has been a very long Summer for Austin and it is said he is becoming increasingly frustrated at QPR’s stubbornness in letting him go. Many clubs have been linked with the striker, including Leicester, West Ham, Everton, Tottenham, Chelsea, West Brom, Southampton, Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Newcastle.
Last week, it was reported by the Daily Mirror that QPR finally lowered their asking price from £15million to £13million, and that Tottenham and Newcastle were on alert.
Those rumours seem to have been quashed now, with Ferdinand saying the following: “The price is still £15million and the only firm bid that has come in is still from Leicester.”
“Everyone feels that bids are going to come in for him, it’s just a matter of when. But if a club doesn’t pay the fee, then we will offer him a new contract to get him to stay.”
Steve McClaren recently denied having any contact with QPR over a possible deal, and maybe it’s going to stay that way until QPR become completely willing to drop their excessive asking price. Most fans want an end to what has been a boring and rumour filled transfer saga, but it looks like this one could go right down to the wire.
