The latest twist in the Charlie Austin saga is that Queens Park Rangers have finally lowered their asking price for the 26-year-old, according to the Mirror.
Newcastle have been heavily linked with a move for Austin throughout the summer, but they face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Everton, Spurs and West Ham, though all potential suitors have been deterred from following up their initial interest by QPR’s £15million price-tag.
The Magpies made an enquiry over Austin’s availability last week and, according to the fresh reports, QPR have now dropped their asking price for Austin to £13million, but only if the full transfer fee is paid upfront.
Though this will be seen as good news, The Mirror also state that Newcastle still feel the R’s valuation is still too much and are unwilling to match it. The longer we wait, the more likely another club is to swoop for our top transfer target.
Do you reckon Charlie Austin is the man to take Newcastle forward or is his signing unnecessary now we have Mitrovic? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
