One player who Newcastle have been linked with since the start of the Summer transfer window is Wolfsburg striker, Bas Dost. The rumours linking the club with the Dutchman have died down recently, ever since Wolfsburg reportedly slapped a staggering £30m on the striker, but there is still interest it has been revealed!
In a recent interview with German magazine Kicker (as reported by Sport Witness), Dost was told about Newcastle’s interest in him and was then pressed for a response. He said: “Of course you’re going to think about it if you can earn three times more at a different club.”
This response has boosted Newcastle’s hopes of purchasing the Dutchman, with some questioning why Dost would consider leaving the German outfit for the Premier League. German clubs simply cannot compete on a financial level with Premier League clubs, due to the new television deal. This would mean that Newcastle certainly have the funds available to lure Dost to Tyneside, but they now need to step up their efforts and agree a fee with Wolfsburg.
It would be highly surprising if the club acquired the services of Dost, as they already signed Aleksandar Mitrovic from RSC Anderlecht for £13million and have the likes of Papiss Cissè, Emmanuel Riviére, Ayozè Perez and Ivan Toney to all compete for a place up front in the team.
