Palace confirm Woodman signing

Crystal Palace have confirmed the appointment of Andy Woodman as their new goalkeeping coach on the club’s official Twitter account.

Woodman was the last remaining member of Alan Pardew’s coaching team left at St James’ Park, succeeding the departure of Pardew in January, and John Carver & Steve Stone at the end of the season.

Following the appointment of Steve McClaren, Woodman’s future was thrown into doubt with many suggesting the former England manager wanted to recruit Eric Steele as his goalkeeping coach. However, Lee Charnley wanted to hold onto Woodman in hope of Crystal Palace following up their initial interest in the 43-year-old and matching his compensation fee demands.

Though the Eagles were unwilling to match Charnley’s demands at first, Pardew has pressed for a reunion with Woodman and a deal has been struck.

Newcastle will now look to replace Woodman swiftly, with Pavel Srnicek and Simon Smith upon the club’s shortlist, as per Craig Hope of the Daily Mail.
