Newcastle ready to up Austin bid

Newcastle United are prepared to up their offer for Charlie Austin, according to The Mirror, but only if the QPR striker’s shoulder gets the all clear from the club’s medical staff.

Steve McClaren is keen to sign the powerful frontman, who netted 18 Premier League goals for relegated QPR last season. The former non-league striker who made a remarkable journey to the Premier League has a history of shoulder problems, suffering three dislocations since 2009.

Newcastle will ensure that Austin goes undergoes a thorough examination before launching a bid for his services. The Magpies boss is said to be keen to pair the recently capped Englishman up front with Serbian powerhouse Aleksandar Mitrovic, who recently arrived for £13million from Anderlecht.

The Newcastle hierarchy believe that a bid of £13.25million will be enough the secure the services of the former Poole Town player, with no other clubs willing to match QPR’s asking price of £15m. The player has supposedly told Newcastle chiefs that he would be keen on a move to Tyneside and this has bolstered Newcastle’s intent to sign him. According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are considering using Haris Vuckic as a makeweight as part of the deal.

The club are kicking on in this summer transfer window with two official signings in Wijnaldum and Mitrovic, with Chancel Mbemba awaiting a visa before his move will be made official.
