The news all Newcastle fans have been waiting for: Rolando Aarons is expected to put pen-to-paper on a new long-term deal next week, according to various news outlets.
Aarons burst onto the scene last pre-season and instantly became a hit with the Geordie faithful, though injuries prevented the 19-year-old cementing his spot in the first-team. Despite the change in management, it is believed Aarons will remain as the club’s first choice left winger, with Yoan Gouffran and Sylvain Marveaux as back-up.
Newcastle had held talks with Aarons’ representatives earlier in the year, but failed to reach an agreement after tabling an alleged £6,000-a-week offer. Lee Charley elected to postpone the contract talks as the Magpies stared down the barrel of relegation.
Back from injury, Rolando has been impressing in pre-season, especially against Portland Timbers – when he netted twice and assisted Georginio Wijnaldum’s first goal in a Newcastle jersey.
Tying down Aarons to a new long-term deal will be regarded as one of the best pieces of business the club could have done this summer, with Manchester City and Liverpool reportedly targeting the winger.
