Newcastle United are negotiating a sensational double swoop for Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba Mangulu from Anderlecht, reports HLN.
According to the Belgian news outlet, Mbemba’s situation is very similar to Mitrovic’s – he is destined to move away from the Pro League side this summer, but the potential suitors haven’t come calling as it stands.
We first reported Newcastle’s interest in Mbemba four months ago, after the 20-year-old impressed chief scout Graham Carr. Atletico Madrid, Porto and Tottenham were also said to be monitoring Mbemba’s situation, but only Newcastle have made a formal approach.
Meanwhile, Newcastle remain confident of signing Aleksandar Mitrovic – who was dropped (once again) for Anderlecht’s friendly yesterday, to avoid picking up an injury which could scupper a move.
The Serbian striker is keen on a move to Tyneside, amid speculation the North-East club do not interest him, but it is his father that is holding up the signing.
His father believes Aleksandar should be playing in the Champions League, but Benfica are unwilling to match Anderlecht’s asking price, while Roma are pursuing other targets – such as Man City’s Eden Dzeko.
Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, who has followed the Mitrovic saga closely, claims the Serbian striker has given up hope of Roma following up their initial interest and he could arrive on Tyneside during the night.
Gazzetta dello Sport (an Italian news outlet with question marks over it’s reliability) are reporting Porto have made an €18million bid, but do not state whether this is upfront (like Newcastle will pay) or in instalments.
There is also no guarantee that the Portuguese outfit will match Mitrovic’s wage demands, so, even if the Italian reports are correct, Newcastle could still win this race. Money talks.
