Newcastle agree terms with Mitrovic

Newcastle United are willing to meet Aleksandar Mitrovic’s €2million per year demands, but his father still has doubts about a move to St James’ Park, according to Belgian news outlet Het Nieuwsblad.

The Serbian striker is currently being pursued by a number of clubs, including AS Roma and Porto, but it is Newcastle that are in pole position to land the striker. The Magpies are prepared to meet RSC Anderlecht’s €17million asking price for the 20-year-old, as well as the player’s demands.

Newcastle and Anderlecht are now pressing the matter and hope to finalise the transfer in the coming days, but Mitrovic’s father is still not convinced by the club – which could scupper a move. He would rather his son hold out for a ‘better offer’ from a Champions League side.

An offer may not be forthcoming as Porto cannot afford to match Anderlecht’s demands, while AS Roma are pursuing higher priority targets, such as Eden Dzeko, instead.

Meanwhile, Charlie Austin remains Newcastle’s top summer target, but they are unwilling to match QPR’s £15million asking price – resulting in a stand-off.
