Newcastle will turn their attention to Dutch striker Bas Dost from Wolfsburg, should they fail in their attempt to land Aleksandar Mitrovic from Anderlecht, according to the Chronicle.
Speculation surrounding the future of the young Serbian striker has been ongoing for some time now. After his agent claimed last Friday a deal would be completed in the ‘coming hours’, contrasting reports have surfaced claiming a deal will not be agreed. The striker is seemingly holding out for the opportunity to continue playing Champions League football.
Newcastle have reportedly given the 20-year-old 48 hours to decides on his future, before they decide to look elsewhere. If Steve McClaren fails to secure Mitrovic, who is thought to be their number one target, Bas Dost will be next on their list.
Dost looks very much like an adequate back up plan, the striker impressed in the Bundesliga last season. The 26-year-old – who has been linked with a move to St James’ Park already this window – scored 16 goals in 21 league appearances last campaign. Dost has also represented the Netherlands on 2 separate occasions.
Who would you rather see arrive at Newcastle? Who do you think would be more of a success?
