Newcastle United are yet to sign a player this window but could spend almost £30million on the signings of PSV’s Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic from Anderlecht this weekend.
De Telegraaf understand that Newcastle will complete the signing of Wijnaldum in the next 24 hours, after PSV confirmed Newcastle had agreed a fee in the region of €20million.
Wijnaldum – who attracted interest from PSG and Manchester United – has reportedly turned down the chance to join Newcastle’s bitter rivals Sunderland already this window, making this signing all the more sweeter.
The Dutch international will put pen-to-paper on a £60,000-a-week contract, to make him the club’s joint highest earner.
Mitrovic, meanwhile, is set to join the club this weekend for around €18million, as per Belgian news outlet HLN.
The 20-year-old was due on Tyneside yesterday but refused to travel in hope of AS Roma making an approach, but he is now resigned to the fact they are pursuing other targets instead. He is now expected to travel to Newcastle this weekend to complete the switch.
It is believed he will put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal and will wear the number 11 jersey – currently occupied by Yoan Gouffran.
The Serbian striker’s agent claims a deal could be struck in the coming hours. Pink Zahavi claimed: “The formalisation of the transfer will be made in the coming hours. Mitrovic and will sign a contract for five seasons for the former club of Philippe Albert.”
Newcastle hope to complete the signing by tomorrow evening, after another successful meeting with his agent today.
Mitrovic has made 90 appearances for Anderlecht, scoring 44 times, since moving to the club from Partizan in the summer 2013.
