Aleksandar Mitrovic was due on Tyneside today to discuss personal terms with Newcastle Unite but, according to Sporting AND, he has refused to travel and will hold out for a move to Roma.
The Serbian is reportedly tired with the lack of progress in his move to Roma, with the Italian outfit yet to table a concrete offer, and has hinted that he wanted to discuss a move with Newcastle instead. Tottenham and Lazio had also both enquired about the striker’s availability this summer.
However, due to the lack of Champions League football at St James’ Park, Mitrovic has refused to travel and is training with Anderlecht today. He will continue to hold out for a move from Roma, or another Champions League outfit.
Mitrovic has a total of 36 goals in 69 appearances for the Belgian club and at only 20-years-old, it would be a massive coup. He has played in the Champions League and would bring a well needed clinical presence in front of goal for the Magpies.
It would most certainly be a signal of intent by the Newcastle hierarchy if they somehow manager to pull off this deal, along with Georginio Wijnaldum.
With growing frustration amongst the fanbase at the lack of summer transfer activity, it seems as though maybe Steve McClaren is sticking to his word about bringing in several high quality targets. Finally, the Newcastle fans may have something to shout about if this deal is pulled off.
