Newcastle United are in negotiations with Bordeaux for Diego Rolan, according to French news outlet SudOuest (based in Bordeaux).
The offer on the table from Newcastle is said to be in the region of €15million, but Sud Ouest state it is ‘neither concrete nor acceptable’. Bordeaux are reportedly unhappy with the payment method proposed by Newcastle. Instead, they want majority of the money upfront for their most prized asset.
Rolan stands at 5ft9 inches tall and predominantly plays at a striker, but can play on either wing if need be.
The 23-year-old netted 15 times last season and, as a result, attracted attention from a number of clubs, including Newcastle.
Despite having to compete with the likes of Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani, Rolan has made six appearances for his country – scoring only once. He has also featured in every game for Uruguay in this years Copa America.
Meanwhile, Newcastle look set to announce their first signing of the window after striking a deal with Northampton Town for their 19-year-old striker Ivan Toney. Georginio Wijnaldum, Florian Thauvin, Joel Matip and Charlie Austin all remain on Newcastle’s radar.
