Rayo Vallecano boss Paco Jemez has admitted interest in managing in England, amid reports that Newcastle United are considering the Spaniard as their new permanent head coach.
As the season end draws closer, speculation over who will become the next Newcastle head coach has intensified. An announcement confirming the club’s new permanent head coach is expected shortly after the final day of the season, when the Magpies play host to West Ham United.
Jemez is the latest in a long list of potential replacements for Alan Pardew – who departed the club at the turn of the year. In an interview with Vavel, the Spaniard commented on speculation linking him with the vacancy at St James’ Park:
“Players, coaches and presidents come and go, what remains is the club and the fans.”
“The Premier League is a nice place, where football evolves very rapidly and is a step up in economic potential. It’s a different mentality and culture.
“I would like to manage there someday, but I do not know when I will. I still have not have made a decision about my future.”
When Newcastle were questioned about the Jemez rumours by The Chronicle’s chief sports writer Lee Ryder, the club offered a simple “no comment.”
The one-time bookies favourite to become Pardew’s successor, Remi Garde is still within contention having previously admitted having a ‘duty of confidentiality’ with Newcastle.
When speaking to reporters about his future, back in January, Garde said: “I needed to recover and rejuvenate myself. I do not close the door to anything or to take another year off, or, to dive into a project that would suit me.”
He was then questioned on whether the role at St James’ Park would suit him, to which he responded: “I have a duty of confidentiality in this matter to Newcastle, I will be very honest with respect to the leaders of Newcastle, I can’t say more.”
